Mortgage Minute

Mortgage rates had been steadily dropping since May 21st, but that streak ended today with the average 30-year fixed rate rising 0.06% for top-tier borrowers. While that’s a notable one-day jump, rates remain near their lowest levels since early April.

This pause isn’t surprising. After 11 straight days of declines, a bounce was likely, especially ahead of key economic data. Tomorrow’s jobs report—and inflation data on July 15th—could heavily influence whether the Fed cuts rates soon.

Remember, while the Fed Funds Rate doesn’t directly set mortgage rates, shifts in rate cut expectations often align with mortgage rate movement. Expect higher volatility tomorrow as markets react.
